This is Dubai's most Luxurious Desert Safari, by Platinum Heritage
If there's one thing you absolutely have to do when visiting Dubai, it's going on a desert safari. Venturing out of the gleaming megacity into the open sandy expanse beyond gives you a unique perspective on this arid land's heritage and ancient customs.
During a recent trip to Dubai, my hotel concierge recommended a desert excursion with the award winning Platinum Heritage group. They have several captivating experiences available, ranging from vintage Land Rover drives, falconry displays, sunrise hot air balloon rides and private gourmet dinners, to name a few.
After picking me up at my hotel in the centre of Dubai, it took around 1 hour to reach our desert destination. My Luxury Safari started with an educational (and air conditioned) journey through the dunes of the beautiful Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Apart from the spectacular landscape, I had the opportunity to observe a number of exotic animals that inhabit this dry terrain. Like the graceful Arabian Oryx and many different bird species.
Next we made our way to an idyllic setting in what felt like the middle of nowhere. Complete with striking Persian rugs and cushions, this was the spot where a magnificent sunset falconry display was presented by a professional bird trainer. The special event was informative and engaging - I even had the chance to hold one of these majestic creatures!
Afterwards, as if the adventure couldn't get more dazzling, we headed off into the sunset on the back of a camel! Soon our caravan approached a flame torch-lit area where an authentic Middle Eastern dinner awaited us under the stars. As we were feasting on different local delicacies, we watched exotic belly dancers move to the sounds of traditional Arabian melodies. While the sky darkened and the light gave way to the speckled heavens above...
You can spend the night in the desert, but unfortunately I had a flight to catch in the morning. Even so, my magical expedition into the quiet wilderness was one I will never forget!
