Luxury without limits - Living it up at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur
The world famous St. Regis hotel brand is synonymous with superb service, spectacular destinations and avant-garde design. Its new outpost in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, definitively lives up to this lavish legacy of extra fine hospitality. Not only is this hotel housed in a purpose built modern skyscraper, it also boasts some of the world's most expansive lodgings, state of the art conferencing technology and extraordinary event facilities. Located near the city's largest transportation hub, KL Sentral, The St. Regis streamlines seamless connectivity, accessibility and convenience for business and leisure travelers alike. Also on its doorstep is Kuala Lumpur's oldest and biggest park, Lake Gardens, where popular attractions like the Butterfly and Bird Parks draw scores of visitors. The hotel borders one of the metropolis's most idyllic and posh neighborhoods, with landmarks like the Houses of Parliament and the National Museum within walking distance.
A fact worth mentioning is that the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur has the largest standard room size in the entire city - a whopping 63 m2 to be exact! The entry level deluxe rooms each have their own walk-in dressing room, huge luxurious bathroom (complete with TV and automated toilet!) and spacious seating area. Not to mention the most comfortable bed, floor-to-ceiling windows, remote controlled curtains and my favorite, the fabulous signature leather minibar trunk! This glamorous yet relaxing space is furnished and finished to the highest standards, with a strong focus on detail as is customary at all St. Regis properties around the world.
Another standard "feature" of all guest rooms is unlimited access to the world famous St. Regis butler service. This unique trademark is one that I enjoy most when staying with St. Regis, and it firmly sets the brand apart from rivals in the luxury segment. Whether you require your luggage to be unpacked, a last minute dinner reservation or a steaming pot of fresh tea, the dedicated team of butlers are on hand 24h a day to attend to your most lavish or simplest of needs.
In keeping with the brand's ritzy ways, there are several fine dining options throughout the grandiose premises. The Brasserie, a European-styled eatery with a French-Mediterranean culinary outlook serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. For the grand afternoon tea experience guests can retire to the Drawing Room, which is dominated by an enormous Fernando Botero horse sculpture. Additionally, the exquisite Japanese restaurants Taka by Sushi Saito and Ginza Tenkuni are conjoined and tucked away in splendid surroundings boasting a 300-year old Hinoki counter.
The Astor Bar & Decanter is a swanky refuge for stylish pundits of champagne, spirits and rare wines featuring a cigar lounge and opulent interiors which perfectly reflect the Astors' enduring legacy for the finer things in life. Cloaked in a refined atmosphere of exclusivity, this dramatic space highlights the true essence of St. Regis's heritage with elements like horse-hair wall panels and handmade Italian gold tiles.
As you can expect from a hotel of this calibre, onsite leisure facilities include an palatial spa, fully equipped 24h gymnasium and two large outdoor swimming pools. The beautiful Iridium spa uses ESPA™ products and is in high demand with guests as well as local hedonists, so be sure to reserve your treatment in advance. An unusual yet notable feature of the pool deck is the retractable "media wall" - essentially an enormous 7x4m LED screen that can be used for video displays at private events or parties. Impressive!
Having stayed at several St. Regis properties across the globe, I can confidently say that their hotel in Kuala Lumpur does justice to this industry hero's traditional ethos and captures its quintessential spirit excellently. It was nearly impossible to fault the unimpaired service, magnificent design and timelessly classic culture of this hotel. So much so that the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur has elevated my luxury hospitality expectations indefinitely...
