A magical palace in Dubai - The St. Regis Hotel
On my recent trip to Dubai I chose to stay at one of the desert city's newest luxury hotels - the St. Regis. In late 2015, this iconic international group launched its first of 3 properties in the UAE's biggest city. The beautiful beaux-arts inspired edifice is located in a newly developed area known as Al Habtoor City, an integrated urban resort complex featuring 5 star hotels and several residential towers.
Once you reach the St. Regis, it's impossible not to feel a little royal tinge. After driving down an exquisite palm-lined lane, passing green landscaped gardens complete with tranquil fountains, you arrive at the grand porte-cochère where suited doormen await... I was warmly welcomed, and then ushered through the opulent marble lobby to a private check-in area. The experience was off to an excellent start!
My large room overlooked the oasis-like grounds, with its luxurious decor flaunting a contemporary and refined aesthetic in true St. Regis fashion. Plush fabrics, quality finishes and great proportions elevated the immaculate space to a level of pure indulgence. Undeniably, my favourite part was the lavish marble bathroom. An imposing soaking tub took centre stage, with separate vanities on either side and an enormous walk-in shower. Soft towels, fluffy gowns and a collection of Remède amenities rounded off the fabulous wet room.
Since this is a superior grade property, there are a number of onsite leisure amenities for guests to take advantage of. These include magnificent rooftop pools, an elegant spa and well-equipped gymnasium. Everything is brand new and appears spotless, making the place seem even more glamorous. Something unique that's worth mentioning is the spa's 'Experience Shower". A huge cubicle that features several mood settings which imitate natural scenes like a tropical rain storm, complete with thunder and lightning!
As you can imagine, St. Regis Dubai boasts several fine eateries - ranging from the classical French inspired Brasserie Quartier, which has its own patisserie, to a modern American steakhouse called J&G. Of course there is also the swanky St. Regis bar, where you can sip on their expertly made signature cocktail, The Golden Mary. For al fresco dining one can relax outdoors at Le Patio, and delight in its unique contemporary take on traditional Arabic cuisine.
What I love about St. Regis hotels is their signature butler service, which is available to all guests. This means you have a dedicated member of staff at your disposal 24 hours of the day! It includes complimentary packing/ unpacking, garment pressing, beverage services and more! The only letdown I encountered during my stay was that I couldn't order my choice of wine, due to a lack of stock. This was a minor disruption, but still a pity.
Ultimately, my experience at St. Regis Dubai lived up to the expectations I had of this distinguished luxury label. I also enjoyed the fact that I wasn't confined to a high-rise building, which is usually the case in downtown Dubai. Instead, in the heart of an ever expanding megacity, I found a rare retreat that I wouldn't mind returning to...
